I’m Abby.
With nearly two decades of experience in human resources, including holding regional HR leadership roles across Asia/ Southeast Asia and a decade in executive & team coaching and facilitation, I know a thing or two about human performance.
And how context matters.
Have you ever watched cultures grow?
I have.
First, as a microbiologist. Then, as an organizational development and HR expert. And finally, as a kombucha hobbyist.
And in almost all cases - it starts with a starter culture. A node, a catalyst. And then a substrate - something for the culture to root into, feed from and grow.
And in every case, the growth process for both desired cultures as well as dysfunctional or undesirable cultures is the same. The only way to prevent the growth of undesirable cultures is by being intentional in the choice of substrate and growth conditions, and by being vigilant against contamination.
A leadership lesson in a petri dish, how about that?

I write about a more humane way of leading teams and organizations for break-through results and innovation that sustains beyond your tenure.
I also reflect on
the processes of growth and learning,
the role of cultural climates in fostering performance,
emotional literacy & how it affects organizational performance, and
what it means to lead authentically and humanely in today’s world.
I share examples and stories from my own experiences, and look to actively spotlight Asian stories to add to the global repertoire of organizational and leadership case studies.
Occasionally, you will find anecdotes from my personal experiences and posts on things I am passionate about - my kids, creativity, writing, books, living in Singapore, watercolours & art supplies, walking, Asian potential, baking, mountains, yoga, food platters and things that bring me joy, my husband’s cold-ferment pizzas and custom-crafted cocktails.

I post about twice a month, more when I can, and the newsletter is free. I am looking to engage with, write about and discuss topics that are of most use to you - my readers, and this community we are building together.
Together, I hope we can build momentum for more humane leaders to show themselves, find each other and vectorize their voices for a lasting change in how leaders shape workplace cultures, so everyone can thrive.
